Director of Purchasing / Procurement – Heavy Civil ConstructionLocation: Massachusetts | Full-Time | Salary Range: $150K (DOE) Executive BenefitsA leading infrastructure and heavy civil construction firm is seeking an experienced Purchasing Director to lead its corporate procurement function. This is a high-impact leadership role overseeing strategic purchasing operations across materials, equipment, subcontracts, and temporary facilities for multi-million-dollar infrastructure projects.If you’re a seasoned construction professional with deep procurement knowledge, strong vendor relationships, and a passion for process improvement, this is your opportunity to drive sourcing strategy and cost savings at scale.Key ResponsibilitiesLead all corporate procurement functions across construction projects, inventory, and support operationsManage and mentor the Purchasing Department team, setting clear goals and KPIsDevelop and implement procurement policies and systems that support compliance, cost control, and schedule alignmentDrive early procurement planning in collaboration with preconstruction and project managementReview technical drawings and specifications to ensure accuracy prior to vendor solicitationsLead negotiations of all major purchases and subcontracts to ensure best value, quality, and delivery performanceEstablish and maintain relationships with key suppliers, subcontractors, and manufacturers to leverage buying power and reduce riskOversee subcontractor/vendor prequalification—evaluating financial health, safety record, and capabilitiesResolve procurement-related issues such as delays, quality deficiencies, or urgent orders in real-timeMonitor purchasing trends and identify cost-saving or process-improvement opportunitiesProvide forecasting, cash flow projections, buyout tracking, and executive-level reportingQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related discipline15 years of progressive procurement experience in the heavy civil or large-scale commercial construction sectorStrong understanding of construction logistics, scopes, methods, and procurement riskDemonstrated leadership in building and managing high-performing purchasing teamsExcellent negotiation and vendor management skills, with a proven ability to drive savings and improve delivery timelinesKnowledge of construction contract law and regulatory compliance requirementsComfortable interfacing with executives, legal counsel, estimators, and field leadersHigh integrity, strong judgment, and commitment to corporate social responsibility and ethical business practicesWhat You’ll GainExecutive-level visibility and influence within one of the region’s most well-respected infrastructure firmsCompetitive compensation with strong benefits and retirement packageStrategic autonomy and support to lead procurement transformationA values-driven, safety-first organization with a strong culture of operational excellenceLead with strategy.
