Help Create Healthier, Stronger Communities

Do you believe education can create change before a crisis begins?

We’re looking for a Prevention & Education Provider who is passionate about helping individuals, families, schools, and communities build the knowledge, skills, and connections they need to thrive.

In this role, you’ll bring prevention and education to life in a variety of settings. You may lead a classroom discussion about substance use, help students build skills to navigate bullying, educate community members about mental health, facilitate conversations about suicide prevention, or address other emerging needs in the community.

You’ll have the opportunity to connect with people of all ages and backgrounds, build meaningful community partnerships, and deliver engaging, practical education that can make a difference before challenges become crises.

Position Summary

The Prevention & Education Specialist provides prevention and education services in a variety of community, school, and other settings.

This position may develop and deliver prevention programming on a range of topics, including substance use, mental health, bullying, suicide prevention, and other community needs.

The ideal candidate is an engaging communicator who can connect with diverse audiences, build strong community relationships, and turn prevention concepts into practical, meaningful learning experiences.

What You’ll Do

Prevention & Education

  • Provide engaging prevention and education services to individuals, schools, community groups, organizations, and other audiences.
  • Develop and deliver prevention programming on topics such as substance use, mental health, bullying, suicide prevention, and other identified community needs.
  • Identify and assess the needs of customers, clients, schools, and community partners.
  • Use supportive, interactive educational methods appropriate for the audience, setting, and topic.
  • Develop realistic, effective, and measurable goals and service plans.
  • Help individuals and groups build knowledge, skills, resilience, and healthy strategies for navigating challenges.
  • Facilitate referrals to appropriate services and/or levels of care when additional support is needed.
  • Promote awareness of available behavioral health and community resources.
  • Recruit and develop relationships with schools, community groups, organizations, and other partners to expand prevention services.

Program Quality & Impact

Prevention is most effective when it is intentional, responsive, and measurable. You’ll help ensure our programs are meeting community needs and delivering quality services.

  • Remain current on Prevention and Education standards and ensure services are provided in accordance with those standards.
  • Collect, track, and evaluate program data to support fidelity, effectiveness, and service quality.
  • Complete service documentation accurately and within required timeframes using the electronic health record.
  • Maintain records and documentation in accordance with agency, regulatory, contractual, and program requirements.
  • Follow professional standards, protocols, rules, regulations, and applicable ethical requirements.
  • Participate in program development and continuous quality improvement.
  • Drive as required to provide services in assigned locations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You Bring

You understand that prevention starts with connection.

You’re comfortable speaking with a classroom of students, facilitating a conversation with community leaders, or working one-on-one with someone who needs help finding the right resource. You can make complex topics understandable, create welcoming learning environments, and adapt your approach to meet the needs of different audiences.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Knowledge of prevention and education techniques and interventions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to engage and collaborate effectively with a wide variety of people.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with schools, community organizations, individuals, and other partners.
  • Knowledge of professional ethics, conflicts of interest, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Professional dress, communication, and behavior.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries and objectively assess client and community needs.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to adapt educational approaches to different audiences, settings, and topics.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must be a Registered Applicant (RA) and obtain the Ohio Certified Prevention Specialist Assistant (OCPSA) credential within 13 months of hire.

Why This Work Matters

Prevention is about more than sharing information. It’s about giving people the tools, confidence, and support they need before a problem becomes a crisis.

The conversation you lead today could help a young person make a healthier choice tomorrow. The skills you teach could help a family recognize when someone needs support. The partnership you build with a school or community organization could create opportunities for hundreds of people.

Your work can help make healthier choices easier, strengthen communities, and create change before people ever need treatment.

If you’re an energetic educator, thoughtful communicator, and community-minded professional who wants to make a difference, we’d love to have you on our team.
