Network Engineer – Seaside, CA
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Network Engineer to join the IT Operations team supporting the Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC) IT GEMS program in Seaside, CA. This is a full-time, onsite position that offers an exciting opportunity to work on mission-critical systems within a secure government environment.
Position Overview:
As a Network Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining, securing, and optimizing a complex network infrastructure. You will play a vital role in ensuring network reliability, security, and performance while supporting the organization’s mission to deliver critical data services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor, configure, install, and maintain various network equipment, including routers, switches, firewalls, IDS/IPS systems, load balancers, DNS appliances, and wireless infrastructure.
- Implement and oversee network security protocols, including COMSEC (TACLANE) and EKMS, ensuring compliance with DoD security standards.
- Perform disaster recovery operations, data backups, and system restorations to safeguard data integrity.
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues promptly, replacing faulty components to maintain system stability.
- Conduct performance monitoring and recommend adjustments to optimize network efficiency.
- Coordinate with network users to address and resolve system problems and improve overall network performance.
- Operate master consoles for real-time network performance monitoring and diagnostics.
- Provide comprehensive lifecycle support for enterprise network assets, ensuring up-to-date configurations and security.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in network engineering, preferably within a DoD environment.
- Possess an active Secret Clearance or higher
- Proven expertise in configuring and managing enterprise networking equipment and security systems, including Palo Alto firewalls, F5 load balancers, Cisco routers and switches, and wireless infrastructure.
- Experience with DoD STIG Security Technology Implementation Guide processes.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with technical teams and end-users.
- An associate degree is preferred, but extensive hands-on experience may substitute.
