The Technical SME plays a critical role as a trusted advisor and analyst, supporting the effective operation and strategic development of Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems within OEHRM. This position requires a seasoned professional with extensive technical expertise and a deep understanding of healthcare IT environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a subject matter expert, providing technical guidance and support for EHR programs, policies, and procedures, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and industry standards.
- Collaborate with Site Technical Liaisons to plan, coordinate, and execute comprehensive analyses of clinical and technical workflows.
- Conduct in-depth evaluations of EHR systems using advanced qualitative and quantitative methods to identify opportunities for optimization and efficiency improvements.
- Lead the design, planning, and oversight of large-scale or enterprise-wide information architectures, including hardware, software, middleware, and security components.
- Ensure all technical solutions comply with open system standards, integration requirements, and security policies, including network and information security protocols.
- Support program and project planning efforts, defining milestones, evaluating alternative solutions, and assessing business impacts.
- Facilitate interface development between enterprise solutions and legacy systems to ensure seamless integration and data flow.
- Contribute to business case development and technical feasibility assessments to support strategic decision-making.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in healthcare IT, enterprise architecture, or related fields; additional experience may substitute for educational requirements.
- Proven ability to plan, design, and implement complex, large-scale information systems.
- Strong knowledge of open systems architecture standards, system interoperability, and security practices.
- Experience supporting healthcare systems, particularly Electronic Health Records, is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) systems, health IT environments, and biomedical device integration is advantageous.
- Technical expertise in network security, system interfaces, and EHR deployment.
- Proficiency with tools such as Microsoft Visio and Project.
- Excellent analytical, planning, and communication skills.
