Quality Laboratory Technician Job Description

Position Summary

The Laboratory Technician supports research, testing, and quality control activities by conducting laboratory analyses, preparing samples, operating laboratory equipment, and maintaining accurate records. This role ensures laboratory operations are performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory tests, experiments, and analyses according to established procedures and test methods.
  • Prepare samples, chemical solutions, reagents, and laboratory equipment for testing and analysis.
  • Measure and record pH, viscosity, density, and other physical and chemical properties of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products.
  • Conduct quality control testing to verify products and in process material meet established specifications and customer requirements.
  • Create and distribute Certificate of Analysis for finished goods to correct customers with each shipment or delivery of material.
  • Operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, clean, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment, including pH meters, viscometers, balances, and other analytical tools.
  • Accurately record, analyze, and report test results in laboratory notebooks, databases, and electronic record systems.
  • Report out-of-specification results and testing abnormalities to laboratory management in a timely manner.
  • Assist chemists, site leadership and other technical personnel as needed to support operations and improvement projects.
  • Support root cause investigations using laboratory data and test results.
  • Monitor laboratory inventory levels and assist with ordering supplies, chemicals, and materials.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
  • Handle and dispose of waste in accordance with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Follow all laboratory safety procedures and comply with OSHA, GLP, GMP, ISO, and company quality standards.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory efficiency, quality, and safety.
Requirements:

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • 1- 3 years’ experience is preferred though entry level candidates with relevant education or internships may be considered.
  • Knowledge of laboratory testing, analytical techniques, and sample preparation procedures.
  • Proficiency in the operation and maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Experience with data collection, analysis, documentation, and technical recordkeeping.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety practices and quality assurance procedures.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and prioritization skills.
  • Effective problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and stand for extended periods of time.
