HM/PSA Mixer Operator
Position Summary
The Hot Melt / Pressure Sensitive (HM/PSA) Mixer Operator is responsible for manufacturing adhesive products in accordance with approved formulations, production schedules, quality standards, and safety requirements. This position operates industrial mixing equipment, accurately weighs and adds raw materials, monitors production processes, and ensures all batch documentation is completed accurately.
The Mixer Operator plays a critical role in producing high-quality adhesive products while maintaining operational efficiency and a safe work environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Production Operations
- Review production schedules and batch sheets prior to beginning production.
- Accurately weigh, measure, and add raw materials according to approved formulations.
- Operate mixers, heated tanks, pumps, transfer systems, and related manufacturing equipment.
- Monitor batch temperatures, mixing times, viscosity, and other processing parameters.
- Operate heating systems and monitor product temperatures throughout the manufacturing process.
- Transfer finished products to designated holding tanks or packaging equipment.
- Maintain proper batch identification and product traceability throughout production.
- Perform changeovers and equipment cleaning according to established procedures.
Quality
- Perform in-process quality checks as required.
- Collect product samples for Quality Control testing.
- Notify supervisors and Quality personnel of any out-of-specification conditions.
- Follow all approved batch sheets, work instructions, and standard operating procedures.
- Complete production documentation accurately and completely.
Equipment & Maintenance
- Inspect production equipment before and during operation.
- Report equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs promptly.
- Assist with routine equipment cleaning and preventive maintenance activities.
- Maintain clean and organized production areas following 5S and housekeeping standards.
Material Handling
- Safely transport raw materials and finished products using forklifts, pallet jacks, or other approved equipment.
- Verify raw materials before use.
- Stage materials for upcoming production runs.
- Minimize material waste and properly dispose of production waste according to company procedures.
Safety
- Follow all OSHA, EPA, and company safety policies.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Safely handle heated materials, chemicals, and production equipment.
- Report unsafe conditions, incidents, or near misses immediately.
- Maintain housekeeping standards throughout the work area.
General Responsibilities
- Work closely with Production Supervisors, Quality Control, Maintenance, Warehouse, and Shipping personnel.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, quality, and productivity.
- Assist with inventory verification and cycle counts as requested.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous manufacturing or industrial production experience preferred.
- Ability to read and follow batch sheets, work instructions, and production schedules.
- Basic mathematical skills, including weights and measurements.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
- Reliable attendance and ability to work assigned shifts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in hot melt, pressure sensitive, chemical, coatings, or adhesive manufacturing.
- Experience operating industrial mixers, heated vessels, pumps, or process equipment.
- Forklift certification or ability to become certified.
- Experience using ERP systems and electronic production documentation.
- Understanding of batch manufacturing processes.
Physical Requirements
The employee must be able to:
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
- Push, pull, bend, squat, kneel, climb, and reach throughout the shift.
- Work around heated process equipment and elevated temperatures.
- Wear required PPE, including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, steel-toe footwear, and respirators when required.
