We have an outstanding Contract position for a Bookkeeper to join a leading Company located in the Rockville, MD surrounding area.Pay Rate: $33.99Employ the general accounting processes of cash receipts and disbursements, accounts receivable and payable, and reconciliation to develop accurate, consistent, current, reliable, and timely accounting data for use in preparing various internal and external financial reports.Responsibilities:Receive accounts payable invoices each day by paper or electronically, assign general ledger account numbers, and scan them into the SharePoint accounts payable workflow.Maintain current vendor addresses, request employer identification numbers (W-9s), and EFT information in the accounting system.Download deposit files from the bank each day and generate an automated Great Plains lockbox journal entry for contribution receipts.Integrate daily LCA postings to the Great Plains accounting system. Reconcile subsidiary accounts receivable balances to the general ledger. Scan and index related documents.Prepare adjusting journal entries to record the processing of contribution reports, accounts receivable activity, etc.Reconcile Local Collection Agents' Lockbox deposits on receipt of LCA's 815 form and communicate with Local Collection Agents and Employer Services Department to resolve differences noted during the reconciliation process.Review assigned LCA expense reimbursement requests every year.Research the status of checks outstanding for more than six months, and void and reissue such stale dated checks as appropriate.Prepare schedules for the yearly activity of balance sheet and income statement accounts as assigned for the yearly audit.Maintain a monthly depreciation schedule due by the 10th of each month and a yearly audit for the location of Fixed Assets.Prepare various reports for the Trustees, Executive Secretary-Treasurer, etc, as assigned by the Controller and/or Accounting Manager.Basic Hiring Criteria:Demonstrated proficiency in accounting/bookkeeping/reconciliation skills.Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively through written correspondence (including the use of proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar).Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively when using the telephone.Ability to operate a personal computer and electronic calculator with a high degree of accuracy.Knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Word and MS Excel.Ability to adapt to procedural changes.Ability to carry out instructions and respond to written and/or oral communications.Read and comprehend memoranda, requests for information, reports, and technical manuals.Sitting for extended periods.Performing work requiring repetitive motion.Ability to accomplish assignments as a member of a small group.Ability to concentrate in an open area with frequent interruptions and some noise.Ability to maintain composure in dealing with co-workers, managers, local unions, Local Collection Agents, and contractors as firm deadlines approach.Perform detailed research.Handle and solve problems that occur within the essential functions of the position.After (90 days) in this position, the employee is required to have:Working knowledge of the documents and procedures used on a daily basis.Ability to complete assignments by published deadlines.Working knowledge of the automated accounting system, including a general knowledge of the plans' charts of accounts.General knowledge of the plans' rules regarding employer contributions, as well as the roles of the plan, local collection agents, local unions, and other pension benefit plans in the contribution and collection process.General understanding of our accounting terminology.Demonstrated proficiency in completing the essential functions of the position through the use of Windows, spreadsheet, and word-processing software.Benefits offered to vary by the contract.
