The Chemical Operator is responsible for operating chemical reactors and plants in the batch-wise manufacture of active pharmaceutical ingredients in a safe and GMP compliant manner.
Responsibilities:
- Operates plant equipment such as chemical reactors scales, mixers, pumps, centrifuges, filters, tanks, and material handling equipment.
- Assist with or lead the manipulations in the kilo lab operating equipment such as glass jacketed reactors, tanks, and general laboratory glassware.
- Assist with or lead the manipulations in the highly potent compound suite to complete successful scale up. This includes gowning up, using PAPR respirators, and following strict guidelines and SOPs for safely operating in the suite.
- Accurately completes batch records logbooks, raw materials and consumables inventories, reconciliations, and other documentation in compliance with cGMP and standard operating procedures.
- Moves raw materials, solvents, products as required for mixing, weighing and storage.
- Proper operation of process controls, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical equipment as detailed in procedures to product materials in a safe and cGMP environment.
- Recognizes and documents “abnormal” operating conditions with proper response including immediate notification of supervision.
- Inspects components of the production cycle for compliance with standards and perform preventive maintenance as required.
- Assist in Installation Qualifications, Operational Qualifications, and Process Qualifications to keep the pilot plant facilities qualified.
- Makes good use of hold periods for subsequent processing steps. Utilizes idle processing time to perform other production related activities (housekeeping, training, etc.)
- Collaborate with other departments (QA, R&D, Analytical) to ensure successful completion of campaigns and release of raw materials, intermediates, and final products.
- Performs regular clean-up of manufacturing spaces and equipment.
- Assist in the removal of hazardous waste.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- 3-5 years experience in a chemical and/or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment as operator.
- Ability to operate with complex chemical reactors and equipment.
