Job Description

The Syracuse University Newhouse NYC is seeking an adjunct instructor for JNL 500 Launching a Podcast in the Creator Economy. The adjunct instructor will teach this 1-credit course on Wednesdays 6:00pm-9:10pm during the Summer 2026 semester for 5 weeks which begins on July 8 and ends on August 5. This position is based in NYC (classes cannot meet virtually).

Course Description: This course is designed to help students create a podcast that can actually exist beyond the classroom. By the end of the course, students will have the tools and confidence to take an idea and turn it into a real, launch-ready show. Podcasting today is about much more than recording audio – it’s storytelling, production, community building, and learning how to position your show in a crowded media landscape. The course will cover what it takes to build a podcast from the ground up, from developing a strong concept to planning episodes, booking guests, creating promotional assets, and thinking through social media and brand partnership strategies. The goal is for every student to leave with something they could genuinely release and continue building after the course ends.

This position is located at the Fisher Center, Syracuse University’s consolidated academic campus at 136 Madison Avenue, NY, NY The expected salary range forthis position is $1,700 per credit hour.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required, master’s degree preferred.
  • Teaching experience is preferred although not required.

Job Specific Qualifications

  • Significant amount of professional experience in the creator space and also has worked on or created their own podcast.
  • This candidate will also have enough influence and relationships to provide students with opportunities to engage with industry professionals either in a classroom setting or in the workplace.
  • Experience in Adobe Premiere, Adobe Podcasts, Zencastr, Riverside and CapCut.

Responsibilities

It is understood that teaching assignments may include the following:

  • Developing a syllabus.
  • Ordering in advance books and materials for students in the class to purchase on or before the first day of classes.
  • Preparing for classes.
  • Holding office hours each week to meet with students in the class and others.
  • Grading in a timely manner student assignments and examinations for the course; and turning in mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to instruct the class on the days and times it is designated to meet.
  • Ability to hold office hours on campus.
  • Ability to grade all assignments and examinations.

Tools/Equipment

  • Ability to operate standard classroom instructional technology, which may include computer, projector, document camera, etc.
