About the Role:
As a Senior Tax Associate, you will take ownership of tax engagements from preparation through review, helping to ensure accurate, timely filings and high-quality client service. You will work in a hybrid environment, balancing independent work with close collaboration across the team. Your ability to spot issues, propose improvements, and communicate clearly will directly influence both client outcomes and internal processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review individual, corporate, and/or partnership tax returns in accordance with current tax laws and regulations.
- Research tax issues, interpret guidance, and summarize findings to support positions taken on returns and advisory projects.
- Manage assigned engagements and deadlines, prioritising workload and communicating status proactively to managers and partners.
- Identify process bottlenecks and inefficiencies, recommending and helping implement improvements in workflows and documentation.
- Collaborate with team members in a hybrid setting, sharing knowledge, asking questions, and contributing to a culture of continuous learning.
- Assist with responding to tax notices and inquiries, gathering supporting documentation and drafting responses.
- Support planning and advisory work by analysing client data and preparing working papers and schedules.
Key Requirements:
- 2-3 years of recent, hands-on tax experience in public accounting or a similar professional environment.
- Strong technical grounding in federal and state income tax compliance for individuals and/or business entities.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Proven willingness to ask questions, challenge assumptions, and seek clarity to deliver accurate work.
- Solid analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy in calculations and documentation.
- Proficiency with tax preparation software and Microsoft Excel.
- Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills for internal and client interactions.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience reviewing work prepared by junior staff and providing constructive feedback.
- Exposure to tax planning projects, multi-state filings, or more complex entity structures.
- Familiarity with workflow or document management systems used in public accounting firms.
- Track record of leading or contributing to process improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Active CPA license, or CPA exam parts passed and in progress toward full licensure, strongly preferred for candidates at the higher end of the salary range.
- Additional relevant professional coursework or continuing education in taxation is an advantage.
