About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Food Safety Consultant to support a strategic manufacturing consolidation initiative for a food production company. This role will lead due diligence efforts to evaluate food safety, regulatory compliance, and operational readiness as two external manufacturing facilities are integrated into a single plant. The consultant will play a critical role in ensuring that capital expenditures align with regulatory requirements, risk mitigation, and long-term return on investment.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive food safety and quality audits across existing and target manufacturing environments.
- Assess current-state ("as-is") conditions, including compliance with local, state, federal, and international regulatory requirements.
- Evaluate existing food safety systems, including SQF, HACCP, and related programs.
- Identify gaps between current operations and future-state requirements for a consolidated manufacturing model.
- Develop a detailed gap analysis with prioritized recommendations.
- Perform risk assessments tied to food safety, regulatory compliance, and operational execution.
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders (operations, quality, finance, and leadership) to align findings with capital expenditure plans.
- Provide expert guidance to ensure investments support compliance, efficiency, and ROI objectives.
- Deliver clear documentation and executive-level summaries of findings and recommendations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in Food Safety, Food Science, or a related field (preferred).
- 5–10 years of experience in food safety, quality, or regulatory roles within CPG or food manufacturing environments.
- Strong expertise in SQF, HACCP, and applicable food safety and regulatory frameworks.
- Prior experience in auditing, inspections, or quality/food safety leadership roles.
- Demonstrated experience supporting facility start-ups, transitions, or consolidations is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of regulatory requirements across local, state, federal, and global standards.
- Ability to translate technical findings into business and financial impact (ROI-focused recommendations).
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
