Associate Attorney - General Liability Defense

Salary: $130,000-$170,000 annually
An established law firm is seeking an experienced Associate Attorney to join its civil defense litigation practice in Long Island. The attorney will handle a diverse caseload involving general liability and civil defense litigation matters, including personal injury, motor vehicle, property damage, construction and labor law, and product liability.
Responsibilities
Manage a diverse caseload from inception through resolution.
Draft pleadings and respond to written discovery.
Take and defend depositions of parties, fact witnesses, and expert witnesses.
Participate in arbitrations, court appearances, and trials.
Conduct comprehensive legal research and analysis.
Develop case strategies and evaluate potential outcomes.
Negotiate settlements and communicate with clients, courts, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel.
Provide regular updates to clients regarding case status, strategy, and potential outcomes.
Work collaboratively with partners, associates, and legal staff.
Manage cases in accordance with billing and budget requirements.
Travel as needed for court appearances and client meetings.
Qualifications
J.D. from an accredited law school.
3-7 years of civil litigation experience, preferably on the defense side.
Active New York Bar admission and good standing is required.
Demonstrated experience with courtroom appearances, depositions, and settlement negotiations.
Experience with general liability defense preferred.
Experience involving personal injury, motor vehicle, property damage, construction/labor law, and/or product liability preferred.
Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills.
Demonstrated interest in civil defense litigation.
Third-party insurance coverage experience is a plus.
Judicial clerkship experience is a plus.
Must be able to work daily from the Long Island/Garden City office.
Compensation & Benefits
$130,000-$170,000 annual salary, depending on education, experience, and internal equity.
