Our challenge
We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Senior Software Engineer – Test Automation, Performance Engineering, and Agentic AI to help design, build, and scale next-generation quality engineering solutions for enterprise payment and workflow platforms. This role requires a strong foundation in Java development, automation frameworks, performance benchmarking, CI/CD practices, and Agile delivery, along with hands-on experience building Agentic AI and LLM-powered solutions that improve testing, workflow orchestration, and operational efficiency.
The ideal candidate will bring a blend of traditional software engineering and modern AI engineering expertise, with the ability to build robust automation frameworks, support high-performing delivery teams, and contribute to the evolution of intelligent enterprise systems.
Additional Information*
The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Charlotte, NC is $95k - $105/year & benefits (see below).
The Role
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable test automation frameworks for enterprise applications, including UI, API, and end-to-end workflow validation.
- Build and execute performance benchmarking and non-functional testing strategies to ensure system scalability, reliability, and response-time adherence.
- Develop and support Java-based automation solutions and reusable components to improve testing efficiency and maintainability.
- Integrate automated test suites and quality gates into CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, uDeploy, or similar deployment and orchestration platforms.
- Partner closely with product owners, developers, QA engineers, and Scrum teams to define acceptance criteria, improve test coverage, and support high-quality Agile delivery.
- Design and implement Agentic AI solutions using multi-step workflows that follow plan → act → evaluate patterns, with support for memory, tool use, and orchestration across single-agent and multi-agent systems.
- Build and enhance LLM-powered workflows and automation pipelines using frameworks such as LangChain, AutoGen, Semantic Kernel, or similar technologies.
- Create integrations between AI agents, enterprise tools, automation frameworks, and workflow platforms to support intelligent decisioning and operational efficiency.
- Contribute to architecture discussions around test automation, AI-enabled quality engineering, and enterprise workflow systems, ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, and supportable.
- Support quality engineering practices for payments and workflow-driven applications, including investigation, exception handling, and operational process validation where applicable.
- Mentor team members on automation best practices, CI/CD maturity, performance testing, and emerging AI-enabled engineering approaches.
- Stay current with advancements in test engineering, software delivery, LLM frameworks, and Agentic AI architectures, and apply best practices to improve team capabilities and business
Requirements:
- 3 years of experience with test automation and performance benchmarking tooling, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, or education.
- 2 years of experience working in an Agile Scrum team environment.
- 2 years of experience in Java development.
- 2 years of experience with automation frameworks such as Selenium or similar frameworks.
- 2 years of hands-on experience with CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins, uDeploy, or equivalent tools.
- 1 year of experience in Agentic AI and LLM architecture, including designing and building multi-step AI agents with memory, tool use, orchestration patterns, and evaluation loops.
- 1 year of hands-on experience with LLM frameworks and agent tooling such as LangChain, AutoGen, Semantic Kernel, or similar frameworks for building agent workflows, tool integrations, and automation pipelines.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills with the ability to work across complex enterprise systems.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, product, and operations teams
Preferred, but not required:
- 2 years of additional experience with Java in enterprise application or automation development environments.
- 2 years of experience working with workflow engines utilized for payment investigations, such as Pega Smart Investigate, IBM Business Automation Workflow (BAW), Finastra, Temenos Payments, FIS Payment Hub / FIS Compliance Suite, Appian, or similar platforms.
- 1 year of experience in the payments industry, including payment operations, investigations, exceptions, workflow orchestration, or transaction lifecycle management.
- Experience designing automation or AI-enabled solutions for regulated, high-availability enterprise environments.
- Familiarity with API testing, service virtualization, observability tooling, and enterprise integration patterns.
- Exposure to cloud platforms and deploying automation or AI solutions in scalable environments.
