Our challenge

We are seeking an experienced Octane Engineer to support and enhance enterprise Quality Engineering and Test Management processes using Micro Focus/OpenText ALM Octane. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in ALM Octane administration, test management, Agile delivery support, integrations, reporting, and quality engineering practices. This role requires close collaboration with Development, QA, DevOps, Product Management, and Business teams to drive testing efficiency and software quality across enterprise applications.


Additional Information*

The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Charlotte, NC is $100k - $110k/year & benefits (see below).


The Role

Responsibilities:

  • Administer, configure, and maintain ALM Octane environments to support enterprise testing activities.
  • Manage workspaces, users, permissions, releases, cycles, requirements, defects, and test assets within Octane.
  • Support Agile teams by configuring backlogs, user stories, epics, features, and sprint management processes.
  • Develop and maintain integrations between ALM Octane and tools such as Jira, Jenkins, GitHub, Azure DevOps, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Create dashboards, reports, KPIs, and quality metrics to provide visibility into testing and release progress.
  • Collaborate with QA, Development, Product Owners, and Business teams to define testing strategies and governance standards.
  • Support automated testing frameworks and integrate test execution results into ALM Octane.
  • Troubleshoot Octane-related issues and provide production support, root cause analysis, and resolution.
  • Implement best practices for test management, defect tracking, traceability, and release management.
  • Participate in software release planning, quality reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide training, documentation, and guidance to end users on ALM Octane functionality and processes.
  • Work closely with DevOps and Quality Engineering teams to improve testing automation and delivery pipelines.



Requirements:

  • 5 years of experience in Quality Engineering, Test Management, or ALM Administration roles.
  • Strong hands-on experience with OpenText/Micro Focus ALM Octane.
  • Experience managing requirements, test cases, defects, releases, and Agile work items within ALM Octane.
  • Strong understanding of Software Testing Lifecycle (STLC), SDLC, Agile, and Scrum methodologies.
  • Experience integrating Octane with tools such as Jenkins, Jira, GitHub, Azure DevOps, UFT, Selenium, or CI/CD platforms.
  • Knowledge of automated testing frameworks and test automation best practices.
  • Experience creating dashboards, custom reports, and testing analytics.
  • Strong knowledge of defect management, release management, and quality assurance processes.
  • Experience with SQL and data analysis for reporting and validation activities.
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with technical and business stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field



Preferred, but not required:

  • ALM Octane Administrator certification or related Quality Engineering certifications.
  • Experience with test automation tools such as Selenium, UFT, Tosca, Playwright, or Cypress.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-based testing solutions.
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Banking, Financial Services, Healthcare, or Insurance domain experience.
  • Experience working with enterprise-scale Agile transformation programs.
  • Knowledge of API testing tools such as Postman, Rest Assured, or SoapUI.
  • Experience supporting large-scale test management and quality governance initiatives.
