Payroll Automation Specialist

Location: Phoenix, AZ – 60% onsite at Rio West E Building
Pay Rate: $40/hr
Duration: 6–18 months
Schedule: Full-time, hybrid

About the Role:

The Payroll Automation team within the Finance Division is looking for a professional with strong SAP Payroll experience to support business requirements, testing, implementation, and documentation for payroll processes and related interfaces impacting payroll systems and the general ledger. This role will work across payroll, finance, and business processes and requires someone who is highly analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Gather and document business requirements related to payroll and business activities.
• Analyze information from multiple sources and create business requirements, process flows, test plans, test scripts, and test results.
• Assist with developing and performing testing for payroll and downstream systems.
• Support regression testing, UAT, and system implementation activities.
• Represent the department in meetings and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Assist with identifying and documenting internal controls to support audit activities.
• Support payroll and business process improvements and related system initiatives.
• Manage multiple assignments and changing priorities with minimal supervision.

Requirements:

• 3–5 years of Payroll, Finance, or Accounting experience.
• SAP Payroll experience is required.
• Experience with SAP Payroll/HEC is highly preferred.
• Experience with business systems analysis, functional design, documentation, and process modeling.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks.
• Experience with system design and implementation.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Ability to read and understand multiple labor agreements.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work effectively under pressure.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field, or equivalent experience/training.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with regression testing, UAT, and implementation projects.
• Strong project management skills.
• Experience supporting payroll systems and downstream interfaces.
• Ability to quickly learn and navigate complex payroll systems and processes.
