Job Description:
This is a hands-on production role requiring mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a deadline-driven environment.

This role requires good color perception, mechanical inclination, and the ability to make quick decisions in a fast-paced setting. Previous experience in a production environmentpreferably cold web offset newspaper printingis preferred. Distribution or mail packaging experience, including work on conveyor lines and with stacking and strapping equipment, is a plus.
The position involves significant physical activity, including standing for up to 7.25 hours, lifting up to 50 pounds, kneeling, bending, stooping, reaching outward and overhead, climbing stairs and ladders, pushing rolls of newsprint, and safely operating heavy equipment with multiple moving parts.
Hours of work range from 24-30 hours per week and include every Sunday and Friday, along with two additional weekdays.
Contract role until 6/2026.
Responsibilities
The employee will assist in several manufacturing areas, including the pressroom, plateroom, and mailroom. Reel room responsibilities include roll handling and preparation, paster make-up, reel stand operation, setting tension systems, web leading, and sorting and weighing waste newsprint. Mailroom duties include list preparation, MCS programming, operation of labeling equipment, stackers, bundle strapping and wrapping machines, and conveyors, as well as correcting error bundles and ensuring proper dispatch of printed copies.
Pressroom duties include web leading; cleaning blankets, rollers, press components, and systems; and checking, spotting, mounting, and removing plates. Plateroom duties involve operating PC-based imaging and press proof software, imaging and processing plates, verifying registration, inspecting plates for defects, and verifying printed copies for quality and accuracy. The role also requires communicating critical run-time information with pre-press staff via electronic messaging or phone and relaying relevant updates to management.
Additional responsibilities include operating the Production Data Information Management System (PDIMS) to record nightly run-time data such as film and plate lockup times and to track consumables, assisting with scheduled preventative maintenance, general housekeeping, printing reports, top wraps, and labels, preparing circulation and postal reports for both electronic and hard-copy distribution, and performing other duties as assigned.
