What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical CAD Designer | SolidWorks position at Swagelok Louisiana?
Turn Ideas Into Designs That Get Built
Swagelok Louisiana is looking for a Mechanical CAD Designer who enjoys turning technical concepts into accurate, production-ready drawings.
In this role, you will use SolidWorks to create and revise 2D drawings and 3D models for custom fluid-system assemblies and engineered solutions. Your work will move beyond the computer screen and into fabrication and assembly, where technicians will use your drawings to build real products for customers in industries such as refining, chemical processing, oil and gas, power, and transportation.
You will work closely with engineers, application engineers, sales, operations, and fabrication team members to make sure each design is accurate, practical, and ready to build.
What You Will Do
- Create detailed 2D drawings and 3D models using SolidWorks
- Develop production-ready drawings with dimensions, layouts, sections, and bills of material
- Translate customer requirements, sketches, layouts, specifications, and engineering direction into clear technical documentation
- Review and interpret P&IDs, general arrangement drawings, and equipment layouts
- Revise drawings based on internal feedback, customer comments, and redlines
- Check drawings and models for accuracy, completeness, and manufacturability
- Maintain organized drawing files and follow revision-control procedures
- Work with fabrication and assembly teams to clarify drawing details and design intent
- Help improve drawing standards, templates, and engineering processes
What We Are Looking For
- Approximately two or more years of CAD, drafting, mechanical design, or related technical experience
- Experience creating 2D drawings and 3D models
- Working knowledge of SolidWorks strongly preferred
- Strong mechanical aptitude and an understanding of how components fit and function together
- Ability to produce accurate, detailed work and manage multiple priorities
- Comfortable communicating with engineering, sales, operations, and shop personnel
- Basic familiarity with manufacturing, machining, fabrication, or assembly processes
Helpful, But Not Required
- Associate degree or technical certification in CAD, drafting, mechanical design, or a related field
- Experience working with P&IDs, equipment layouts, or general arrangement drawings
- Exposure to fluid systems, instrumentation, tubing, valves, piping components, or mechanical assemblies
- Experience preparing bills of material or managing drawing revisions
- Experience designing products that are fabricated, machined, or assembled
Do not have experience with every item listed? We are willing to train someone who has a strong CAD foundation, mechanical curiosity, attention to detail, and a genuine interest in learning our products and design standards.
What Success Looks Like
During your first several months, you will learn Swagelok products, internal drawing standards, and our design-review process. As you grow in the role, you will independently produce accurate models and drawings, respond effectively to revisions, and become a trusted design resource for engineering and fabrication.
Why Join Swagelok Louisiana?
You will have the opportunity to work on custom engineered solutions, collaborate directly with the people who design and build them, and see your work progress from concept through fabrication.
