Position Summary
The Dental Hygienist is essential to delivering exceptional, patient-centered oral care. Key Responsibilities
- Perform dental prophylaxis (cleanings), periodontal scaling and root planning, and other hygiene procedures
- Conduct oral health assessments, including periodontal charting, oral cancer screenings, and evaluation of dental conditions
- Take and process digital dental radiographs (X-rays)
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, preventive care, nutrition, and post-treatment instructions
- Review and update patient medical histories and document clinical records in accordance with legal and practice standards
- Administer local anesthesia and nitrous oxide sedation (as permitted by state regulations)
- Apply sealants, fluoride treatments, and desensitizing agents
- Collaborate with the dentist on treatment planning and patient care coordination
- Maintain infection control and sterilization standards following OSHA and HIPAA guidelines
- Manage hygiene appointments efficiently to maintain daily schedules and patient flow
Qualifications
- Active state licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH)
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene from an accredited program
- Current CPR/BLS certification
- Certification for local anesthesia and nitrous oxide (where required or state-permitted)
- Strong communication and patient-education skills
- Proficiency with dental software and digital radiography preferred
