Role Description This is a full-time, on-site role based in Atlanta, GA, for a Land Surveying Field Instrument Operator. The Instrument Operator will work closely with the field crew chief to set up, operate, and maintain survey instruments, including total stations and related equipment. Daily tasks include assisting with topographic, boundary, ALTA, construction staking, and as-built surveys; collecting accurate field measurements; setting stakes and markers; and recording field notes. The role involves working outdoors in varied terrain and weather conditions, following safety procedures, and ensuring that data is collected efficiently and accurately. The Instrument Operator will also help with equipment checks, basic troubleshooting, and coordination with office staff to support project deadlines.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Land Surveying, with exposure to field procedures and measurement techniques.
- Hands-on experience or training in Topographic Surveys, including collection of elevation and feature data.
- Familiarity with Building Surveying tasks, such as layout, construction staking, and as-built data collection.
- Ability to operate and assist with Total Station equipment, including setup, alignment, and data collection.
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods, lift and carry equipment, and navigate uneven terrain safely.
- Attention to detail, reliable time management, and strong teamwork and communication skills.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical coursework or certificate in surveying or geomatics is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for travel to job sites.
