Surlamer Investments is a Newport Beach–based private investment firm with a portfolio spanning real estate, public markets, and private ventures. We operate with institutional discipline while maintaining the flexibility of a closely held organization.
We are seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Specialist to support day-to-day accounting operations for our portfolio companies. This role will help maintain accurate financial records, support budgeting and reporting, process accounting activity, and strengthen financial workflows across the firm.
This is a full-time, in-person role based in the Orange/Newport Beach area.
Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate general ledger entries, reconciliations, and month-end closing activities
- Prepare financial statements, internal accounting reports, and supporting schedules for ownership
- Assist with annual budgets, quarterly forecasts, variance analysis, and cash flow tracking
- Process accounts payable/receivable, vendor invoices, expense reports, and credit card reconciliations
- Support accounting needs across portfolio companies, including vendor payments, operating expenses, project costs, contracts, and internal reporting
- Support accounting for commercial real estate operations, including lease-related activity, property expenses, capital improvements, and operating cost tracking
- Assist with tax documentation, audit requests, and coordination with external CPAs
- Maintain organized accounting files, contracts, invoices, and supporting documentation
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and applicable requirements
- Support other accounting, reporting, and administrative projects as assigned
- Other tasks as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 3–5 years of accounting experience; real estate, family office, multi-entity, or private company accounting experience preferred
- Proficiency in QuickBooks required
- Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and formulas
- Strong analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and accuracy
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively across departments and portfolio companies
