Professional Rank and Salary Range: Tenure track Instructor or Assistant Professor $55,000-$60,000

Duration: Academic Year (this position follows the 10-month Academic Calendar), starting in Fall 2026 or Spring 2027

SUNY Morrisville is seeking a tenure track Instructor or Assistant Professor in the Renewable Energy and Residential Construction Department. This role emphasizes applied, hands-on instruction that prepares students for immediate employment in the residential building industry. The successful candidate will teach across classroom, lab, and live-build environments while contributing to program growth and industry partnerships in Central New York. Teaching responsibilities typically include at least 14-17 contact hours per week (lectures and labs).

Primary Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
Teaching & Applied Learning

Teach courses in:
Residential construction methods (light framing, wood products, foundations)

Building systems (electrical, plumbing, HVAC)

Construction materials and methods

Blueprint reading, layout, and estimating

Residential building codes and safety practices

Provide hands-on instruction in labs, shops, and live construction projects

Integrate real-world projects and field-based learning

Program Development

Develop and update curriculum aligned with workforce needs

Incorporate current practices, including energy-efficient and sustainable construction

Support program accreditation and assessment efforts

Student Success

Advise and mentor students

Support recruitment, retention, and completion initiatives

Assist with internships, apprenticeships, and job placement

Industry Engagement

Build partnerships with local contractors, builders, and trade organizations

Participate in advisory boards

Maintain alignment with standards from International Code Council and New York State Residential Code

Service & Campus Engagement

Participate in departmental and campus committees

Support college initiatives and community outreach

Assist in maintaining lab/shop safety and equipment

Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications

Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track)

Master's degree in Construction Management, Construction Technology, or related field
3-5 years of teaching and/or industry field work experience preferred
Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching

Instructor (Tenure Track)

Bachelor's degree in related field (Associate's with extensive experience may be considered)
3-5 years of industry work experience and/or teaching experience in a related discipline is required
Strong hands-on technical expertise

Preferred Qualifications

Teaching or workforce training experience
Knowledge of New York State building codes
Industry certifications: OSHA 10/30
Work experience in construction industry
Proficiency in using learning management systems (e.g., Brightspace, Blackboard)
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
