Brief Description of Duties:
SUNY Morrisville invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Renewable Energy to support a growing, hands-on technical program. This position focuses on undergraduate teaching in applied renewable energy systems, with an emphasis on solar photovoltaic systems, wind energy, electrical systems, and grid-integrated technologies.

The successful candidate will deliver lectures and laboratory instruction, contribute to curriculum development, and support workforce training initiatives aligned with industry needs.

This is a teaching-focused position, which typically includes 14-17 instruction contact hours per week (lectures and labs). Most classes are structured with 2 lecture hours and 2-3 lab hours weekly.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to :
Teach undergraduate courses in renewable energy systems through applied, lab-based instruction.

Deliver instruction in areas such as:
  • Wind energy systems: resource assessment, system installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Solar photovoltaic systems: site assessment, installation, system design (residential to utility scale), and code compliance
  • Electrical systems and controls: power electronics, monitoring systems (e.g., SCADA), system protection, and structured troubleshooting methods
  • Renewable energy system design and development: including system sizing, load analysis, permitting considerations, and performance optimization
  • Advanced energy systems and grid technologies: smart grids, energy storage, microgrids, and grid integration of renewable systems
Develop and revise curriculum to reflect current industry standards, codes, and emerging technologies.

Support workforce development and technical training programs.

Engage with industry partners to maintain program relevance and expand opportunities for students.

Participate in student advising, program assessment, and campus service.

Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree (or higher) in renewable energy, engineering, engineering technology, or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated ability to teach applied technical content at the college or workforce training level, including laboratory environments
  • Hands-on industry experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Solar photovoltaic systems (installation, design, or commissioning)
  • Wind energy systems (installation, operation, or maintenance)
  • Energy storage systems (installation, design, or commissioning)
  • Electrical systems, controls, or power systems relevant to energy applications
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Industry certifications (e.g., NABCEP, OSHA, or similar)
  • Experience with tools such as AutoCAD, energy modeling software, or monitoring/control platforms
  • Experience with National Electrical Code (NEC)
  • Prior experience with applied, project-based, or lab-intensive teaching
  • Engagement in workforce development, grant-funded initiatives, or industry partnerships
  • Proficiency in using learning management systems (e.g., Brightspace, Blackboard)
