Laborer (Shop Technician) Job Description
A General Laborer performs manual labor tasks and supports field crews. This position will be responsible for operating and maintaining various machines, loading and unloading frequently heavy material, and following direction from supervisors. A successful person in this role should be physically fit, reliable, and a good multi-tasker. This position reports directly to the Safety Manager.

Responsibilities
Each project will define and dictate the actual workweek, workdays, and working hours. Any work time in excess of 40 hours per week must be preapproved. Failure to obtain pre-approval for work time in excess of 40 hours per week is a basis for disciplinary action. It is the expectation of SunWest Builders that each employee will satisfy the unique workday requirements for each project as necessary.

Responsibilities
- Prepare construction sites by cleaning obstacles and hazards.
- Clean up worksites from debris and machinery.
- Assist carpenters and tradespeople on-site as directed.
- Assist with assembly of temporary structures.
- Handle and transport materials and equipment.
- Use power tools and machinery when needed.
- Assist with equipment inventory control in the shop.
- Complete other responsibilities as assigned
- Follow appropriate safety rules and regulations.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (standing for long periods of time, lifting heavy loads of at least 50 pounds, etc.).
- Familiarity with power tools and machinery is a plus.
- Ability to work in all weather.
- Have a valid driver’s license
- High School Diploma (or equivalent) preferred but not mandatory.
- General knowledge about the construction industry.
- Ability to acquire an Equipment Operators card

- At times, the position will require heavy lifting (of at least 50 lbs.) and the use of heavy equipment.
- The position will require 8 hours a day of walking, standing, climbing, squatting, kneeling, crawling, and stretching; to include pulling, pushing, and lifting of construction materials and equipment.
- Work may be inside or outside, depending on the work schedule. You must be able to work in either environment and be prepared for inclement weather.
