About the Position
We're looking for an experienced Overnight ER Veterinary Assistant to join our team!
This is a hands-on, patient-care-focused position where you'll work closely with our emergency veterinary technicians and doctors to provide high-quality care to emergency patients, as well as hospitalized patients from our specialty services.
Our veterinary assistants play an important role in supporting the medical team, from assisting with treatments and procedures to keeping hospitalized patients comfortable, clean, and closely monitored throughout the night.
Emergency medicine can be unpredictable, so we're looking for someone who can stay calm under pressure, recognize when a patient needs attention, communicate effectively, and jump in wherever the team needs support.
What You'll Do
- Assist veterinary technicians and doctors with patient care, treatments, examinations, and procedures.
- Provide compassionate care to hospitalized patients, including feeding, walking, cleaning, monitoring, and ensuring patient comfort.
- Assist with patient handling and restraint, obtaining vital signs, blood draws, radiographs, and other diagnostic procedures.
- Support the medical team during emergencies, including critical patient stabilization and CPR.
- Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratories.
- Help maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked treatment areas, equipment, and supplies.
- Communicate compassionately with clients and assist with phones and reception duties as needed.
- Work collaboratively with technicians, doctors, and other team members to ensure patients receive attentive, timely care.
What We're Looking For
Our ideal candidate is someone who genuinely enjoys working with animals, takes pride in providing excellent patient care, and understands the importance of being a reliable, supportive team member.
We're especially interested in candidates who have:
- Previous experience working as a veterinary assistant, ideally in emergency, specialty, or a busy veterinary practice.
- Strong animal handling and restraint skills.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well with technicians, doctors, and other team members.
- The ability to prioritize tasks and stay organized in a fast-paced environment.
- A willingness to learn, take direction, ask questions, and help wherever needed.
- Compassion for both patients and their families, particularly during stressful or emotional situations.
Experience in emergency medicine is a plus!
