Registered Nurse Stepdown Unit (PCU) | Greensboro, NC | Contract Position
A specialized opportunity exists for an experienced Registered Nurse skilled in intermediate care nursing on a PCU Stepdown Unit. This role focuses on managing stroke and cardiac patients within a hospital known for its teaching status and advanced cardiac and stroke services.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive care to intermediate patients diagnosed with stroke, heart failure, TIA, sepsis, syncope, AKI, chest pain, and other related conditions.
- Monitor and titrate hemodynamic drips including Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, Neo, Nitro, and Amiodarone.
- Perform neurological assessments using NIH Stroke Scale; promptly recognize and escalate neuro changes.
- Interpret telemetry rhythms and collaborate with cardiac surveillance support.
- Utilize advanced technology including EMR systems (Encompass/EPIC), Baxter IV pumps (transitioning to Alaris), Omnicell medication dispensing, and Philips MX-40 monitors.
- Work within a multidisciplinary team supporting patient activities of daily living, mobility, vital signs, and other assigned tasks.
- Adhere to facility protocols and demonstrate strong communication with charge nurses, hospitalists, intensivists, and respiratory therapists available 24/7.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Active RN license.
- Minimum 1 year of stepdown/intermediate care nursing experience required.
- Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale.
- Proficiency with telemetry monitoring and managing cardiovascular drips.
- Strong clinical judgment in detecting neurological changes.
- Experience in a hospital setting with stroke or cardiac patient populations.

- Unit size: 36 beds with an average daily census of 35 patients.
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4 RN; support from LPNs and CNAs.
