Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Midlothian, IL

Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1 year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

Step into a rewarding contract opportunity providing essential Sign Language Interpretation for an elementary student this summer. Located near Midlothian, IL, this assignment runs from July 6th to July 23rd, with hours scheduled Monday through Thursday, 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. As a dedicated 1:1 interpreter for a young learner, you’ll play a crucial role in supporting communication and access to education. If this summer position proves to be a great match, there’s potential for an extended assignment in the fall.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Valid EIPA score of 4.0 or higher required
• Proven expertise as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in school settings
• Strong command of American Sign Language (ASL) and total communication approaches
• Experience working 1:1 with elementary-age students
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with school staff
• Professionalism and flexibility within fast-paced educational environments

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide real-time interpretation for an elementary student during classroom activities and school interactions
• Facilitate understanding and participation in both academic and social settings
• Collaborate with teachers and support staff to optimize inclusion strategies
• Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards at all times
• Offer feedback on student communication progress as needed
