Job Description
The Erosion Control Specialist is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and maintaining erosion and sediment control measures across multiple project sites. This role ensures all regulatory and environmental compliance standards are met while supporting site personnel in maintaining safe, clean, and compliant work zones. The position works closely with project managers, field supervisors, inspectors, and environmental agencies to ensure proper installation and maintenance of erosion control systems.
- Install and maintain erosion and sediment control devices including silt fence, inlet protection, wattles, matting, check dams, and stabilization measures.
- Conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations, including NPDES, SWPPP, and project-specific requirements.
- Document inspections, deficiencies, corrective actions, and environmental conditions through written reports and digital logs.
- Identify erosion control issues and recommend appropriate corrective measures.
- Work closely with project managers and field crews to coordinate erosion control needs and installation schedules.
- Maintain accurate records of materials used, areas stabilized, and devices installed or repaired.
- Ensure all stormwater BMPs remain functional and compliant throughout all phases of construction.
- Communicate with inspectors, environmental consultants, and regulatory representatives as needed.
- Assist with SWPPP compliance, updates, and field verification of BMP implementation.
- Educate crew members when necessary on proper erosion control practices and site cleanliness.
- Operate small equipment and tools required for erosion control installation and maintenance.
- Comply with all company policies, safety standards, and environmental protocols.
- Current GSWCC Level IA Erosion & Sediment Control Certification (Blue Card) required.
- Current WECS certification is desirable or ability to obtain that certification upon hire.
- Experience in erosion control, stormwater management, or environmental compliance.
- Knowledge of BMP installation, stormwater regulations, and SWPPP requirements.
- Ability to read plans, maps, and erosion control layouts.
- Strong understanding of construction site operations and environmental risks.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrain.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Works under general direction with responsibility for independently evaluating site needs and ensuring compliance.
- May occasionally consult with supervisors or project managers for clarification on unusual situations.
- Georgia Department of Transportation experience preferred.
- Ability to lift over 50 lbs as needed.
- Ability to walk, stand, bend, kneel, and perform physical labor for extended periods.
- Regular exposure to outdoor conditions including heat, cold, dust, mud, and uneven terrain.
- Must be able to communicate verbally and visually identify site conditions requiring attention.
- May work with confidential project information such as site plans, schedules, and environmental reports requiring discretion.
