HIGHWAY FOREMAN
Help lead the team that keeps Sunapee moving safely year-round.
The Town of Sunapee is seeking an experienced, hands-on Highway Foreman to supervise the daily work of our Highway Department crew and help maintain the roads, bridges, drainage systems, sidewalks, parking areas, and other infrastructure our community depends upon.
This is a working supervisory position reporting to the Highway Director. The Highway Foreman will plan, assign, and inspect daily work while operating heavy equipment and working alongside the crew. Responsibilities include coordinating maintenance and construction projects, directing winter operations, establishing safe work zones, tracking labor and equipment usage, maintaining project records, and assisting with personnel management and budget preparation. The Foreman will also assume the Highway Director’s responsibilities when authorized.
The successful candidate will bring strong leadership, sound judgment, and practical experience in roadway, drainage, bridge, sidewalk, site, or utility construction and maintenance. Candidates must be proficient in operating and maintaining heavy equipment and commercial vehicles.
Minimum qualifications include one of the following:
- A two-year degree in construction management, civil technology, or a related field;
- Master Road Scholar Certification; or
- At least three years of experience in site and utility construction management or construction supervision.
A valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with air-brake endorsement and a current DOT medical certificate are required by the start date. A Class A CDL and previous municipal supervisory experience are preferred.
The Highway Foreman participates in the winter on-call rotation and must be available to respond to severe weather, emergencies, and other operational needs outside regularly scheduled hours. Overtime and call-back time are compensated in accordance with Town policy and applicable law.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Labor Grade 14: $31.89-$35.20 per hour, depending on qualifications.

The position is subject to a satisfactory driving-record review, pre-employment physical and drug screening, and ongoing drug and alcohol testing requirements applicable to commercial drivers.
