Position Overview
Summit Skilled Solutions is seeking an experienced Dock Technician to perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on commercial and industrial facility equipment. This position is ideal for a mechanically skilled technician with experience servicing commercial dock equipment, overhead doors, automatic doors, dock levelers, and facility maintenance systems.
The ideal candidate will be safety-focused, dependable, and able to work independently while providing excellent communication and customer service. This role requires strong mechanical abilities, attention to detail, and the ability to manage service requests from start to completion.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on commercial and industrial facility equipment.
- Follow all safety procedures, including OSHA guidelines and lockout/tagout (LOTO) requirements.
- Conduct routine facility inspections and shift rounds to identify equipment issues and document system performance.
- Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair dock and facility equipment, including:
- Dock levelers
- Dock seals and bumpers
- Dock locks
- Commercial overhead doors
- Automatic doors
- Door hardware and access systems
- Inspect equipment by evaluating operating conditions, including:
- Speeds
- Pressure
- Vacuum
- Vibration
- Equipment wear
- Replacement of consumable components such as belts, hoses, fluids, and filters
- Perform preventative maintenance tasks including:
- Filter replacements
- Condenser cleaning
- Equipment lubrication and greasing
- Oil changes
- General equipment servicing
- Complete minor building and equipment repairs, including:
- Basic plumbing repairs
- Simple electrical repairs
- Lighting-related issues
- Basic carpentry and building maintenance
- Cleaning, patching, and painting as needed
- Document completed work, findings, and recommendations within the CMMS/work order system.
- Analyze maintenance findings and recommend updates to preventative maintenance schedules.
- Communicate effectively with customers, coworkers, contractors, and site leadership regarding work status and completion timelines.
- Provide direction and support to subcontractors when needed.
- Complete required training related to:
- Confined space procedures
- Hazardous energy control
- Safety documentation requirements
- Maintain accurate records and complete reports in a timely manner.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Site Manager.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 1 year of experience servicing and maintaining commercial dock equipment.
- Experience with:
- Dock levelers
- Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Commercial doors
- Automatic doors
- Dock locks
- Overhead door systems
- Valid driver's license required.
- Ability to read and interpret:
- Safety procedures
- Maintenance manuals
- Technical instructions
- Diagrams and schematics
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to use email, computers, tablets, and electronic work order systems.
- Ability to work independently and manage changing priorities.

- AAADM Certification.

- Trade school training or additional mechanical/electrical training.
- Experience with general facility maintenance.
- Experience with plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or carpentry repairs.
Technical Skills & Requirements
Candidates must be comfortable with:
- Using hand tools and power tools.
- Disassembling and reassembling equipment, fixtures, fans, pumps, and HVAC-related components.
- Performing basic mechanical repairs on buildings and equipment.
- Operating:
- Forklifts
- Scissor lifts
- Aerial lifts
- Using computers, tablets, and mobile devices for documentation.
- Working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
- Completing work safely while maintaining high-quality standards.
