What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head Varsity Football Coach position at Summit High School?
Under the direction of the athletic director, and in accordance with District policies, procedures, and CHSAA regulations, the Head Football Coach shall be responsible for building an educational based football program founded on the pursuit of fundamental excellence. The coach will implement football systems with focus on sound, simple and consistent football principles that meet the abilities of the student-athletes.
School/Community Roles and Responsibilities
- Supports the person, student and athlete, in that order.
- Assumes responsibility for supervision of student-athletes
- Develops honest and fair rapport with students, parents, coaching staff, and school staff among others.
- Emphasizes the principles and policies in the Summit HS Athlete Handbook.
- Supports the principles in the Summit HS Coaches Handbook
- Supports a program that teaches and develops skills, leadership, integrity, positive attitudes, and sportsmanship.
- Is a positive role model at all times.
- Builds strong relationship with the Summit County football community.
- Works effectively with the Summit High School Head Athletic Trainer.
- Inspects facilities before and after usage and reports concerns immediately.
- Is a visible and supportive presence on the Summit High School campus throughout the year
- Maintains an up-to-date inventory of all equipment.
Program Specific Duties and Expectations
1. Ability to coordinate the offense and/or defense.
2. Dedicated to pursuing excellence on the field and to building a long term plan for sustainable success.
3. Prepares the team through well organized, time efficient practices.
4. Committed to fundamental skill development and football systems that align with Summit student-athletes strengths.
5. Builds the best possible assistant coaching staff and clearly communicates expectations to staff.
6. Organize voluntary off-season football specific training to include strength and conditioning.
- Qualifications:
- High school diploma required, college degree preferred.
- Previous coaching experience as a Head Coach or Coordinator preferred
