Make an impact where it matters most.
Summit High School is seeking a passionate, relationship-driven Day Treatment Teacher to join our specialized program designed to support students with academics, social-emotional, and mental health needs. This is not a traditional classroom role—it’s an opportunity to change trajectories, build trust, and be part of a deeply collaborative and supportive team.

About the Day Treatment Program

Our Day Treatment program is a small, tight-knit learning environment that provides students with enhanced mental health services alongside individualized academic support. The classroom serves a limited number of students and is staffed by two teachers and a therapist, all actively involved throughout the day. Together, we create a space that feels less like a school program and more like a family—where students are known, supported, and valued.

We work closely with a large interdisciplinary team that includes the school psychologist, principal, assistant principal, and director of special education services, ensuring students receive comprehensive, wraparound support. Instruction and intervention are highly individualized, with a strong emphasis on social-emotional learning, life skills, executive functioning, and IEP goal progress.

This role relies heavily on authentic relationships. Success in Day Treatment comes from connection—meeting students where they are, celebrating growth, and helping them build the skills they need to succeed both in and out of school.

What You’ll Do

The Day Treatment Teacher plays a critical role in instruction, classroom culture, crisis support, and collaboration. Responsibilities include:

  • I lead instruction for lessons and activities (Affective Education, Executive Skills, Community Connections, Life Skills, Academic Intervention)
  • I lead classroom management and manage the Behavior Criteria System
  • I support youth/students in general education (class, lunch, assemblies, etc.)
  • I provide social emotional and behavior inventions within the classroom
  • I provide confidential trauma-informed and culturally competent care for children and families
  • I provide on-call Safety Care Team crisis prevention and de-escalation
  • I maintain Red Cross First Aid and CPR
  • I coordinate community collaborations and field trips
  • I maintain each child’s SCDTP/SCHSDTP record
  • I attend and co-facilitate weekly SCDTP/SCHSDTP Team meetings
  • I co-facilitate Monthly Review meetings

Why This Role Is Special

  • Small class sizes allow for deep, meaningful relationships with students
  • Team-based model with teachers, therapists, and administrators working side by side
  • Strong focus on social-emotional growth, life skills, and whole-child support
A classroom culture that truly feels like a community and family
  • Opportunity to be part of a program where your voice, creativity, and care directly shape student outcomes

If you’re an educator who believes in relationship-centered teaching, trauma-informed care, and the power of individualized support, the Day Treatment program at Summit High School offers a rare and rewarding opportunity to do work that truly matters. Individuals with a teaching license or special service provider can apply.
