Salary: Starting at $15.86 per hour, based on experience
Job Summary:
The K-12 Paraprofessional provides instructional and behavioral support to students under the supervision of a licensed teacher. The paraprofessional assists in classroom activities, student supervision, and individualized student support to promote a positive learning environment. This role plays a crucial part in fostering student success and ensuring a well-managed educational setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist teachers in implementing lesson plans and instructional activities.
- Provide individualized or small-group support to students as directed by the teacher.
- Support students with special needs, including physical, behavioral, or academic assistance.
- Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, lunchrooms, and playgrounds.
- Help maintain a structured and safe classroom environment.
- Prepare learning materials and resources for classroom activities.
- Assist in managing student behavior and reinforcing positive discipline strategies.
- Monitor student progress and communicate observations to teachers.
- Support students with daily living skills as needed.
- Follow all school policies, procedures, and confidentiality regulations.
Specialized Support Areas:
Mild/Moderate Classrooms:
- Provide academic and behavioral support to students with mild to moderate disabilities.
- Assist in adapting curriculum and classroom materials to meet individual student needs.
- Facilitate social and emotional learning interventions.
- Encourage student independence and self-regulation strategies.
Moderate to Intensive Classrooms:
- Work closely with students requiring significant academic and behavioral support.
- Assist with daily living skills, mobility, and personal care tasks as needed.
- Implement behavior intervention plans under teacher supervision.
- Utilize specialized equipment and assistive technology to support student learning.
- Foster a highly structured and supportive learning environment.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate's degree or 48 semester hours of college coursework preferred.
- Valid Ohio Educational Aide Permit (or ability to obtain one).
- Experience working with children, preferably in an educational setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow teacher instructions and work collaboratively with staff.
- Patience, adaptability, and a passion for supporting student learning.
Physical and Other Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift light classroom materials.
- Capability to assist students with mobility and daily tasks as needed.
