Terminal Field Safety Specialist - HESS
The Terminal Field Safety Specialist is responsible for promoting and ensuring a safe working environment across Texas International Terminals. This role supports the HESS (Health, Environmental, Safety, and Security) Division by conducting field safety inspections, enforcing safety policies, investigating incidents, and providing training to employees and contractors. The ideal candidate will have a hands-on approach, strong knowledge of safety regulations, and the ability to identify and mitigate risks in a dynamic terminal environment.
Roles:
- Safety Audits and Inspections: Conduct regular safety audits, walkthroughs, and inspections of terminal facilities, including tank farms, docks, warehouses, and operational equipment to identify and address hazards. Ensure adherence to company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and other industry standards.
- Incident Investigation and Reporting: Investigate workplace incidents, near misses, and safety violations to determine root causes. Prepare detailed reports and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence and improve safety practices.
- Training and Safety Orientation: Deliver safety orientation and training programs to employees and contractors. Ensure all personnel are aware of terminal safety policies, emergency procedures, and the proper use of equipment.
- Permit-to-Work and Emergency Response: Monitor and enforce permit-to-work systems for high-risk activities such as confined space entry, hot work, and hazardous materials handling. Assist in developing and executing emergency response plans and drills to ensure readiness for emergencies like spills, fires, or medical incidents.
- Safety Equipment Maintenance and Recordkeeping: Inspect and maintain safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, PPE, and first-aid supplies, ensuring compliance and availability. Maintain accurate safety records, including inspection logs, training documentation, incident reports, and safety performance metrics.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred; equivalent work experience will be considered.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a safety role, preferably in terminal, industrial, or maritime environments.
- Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA regulations, industry safety standards, and best practices for hazard identification and risk mitigation.
- Strong experience conducting field inspections, training sessions, and incident investigations.
- Certifications such as OSHA 30-Hour, CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician), or equivalent are highly desirable.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare detailed reports and deliver effective training.
- Proficient in using safety management software and tools for recordkeeping and reporting.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical ability to navigate terminal environments, including climbing stairs/ladders and working in outdoor conditions.
