Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Safety Technician with strong experience in excavation, rigging, and heavy equipment operations. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and compliance of our pipeline and construction projects. This position involves assessing risks, monitoring excavation and lifting operations, implementing safety protocols, and promoting occupational health standards to maintain a safe working environment for all employees. The Safety Technician will work closely with project managers, site supervisors, and equipment operators to ensure adherence to OSHA, DOT/PHMSA, and other applicable regulations.
Duties
- Conduct regular safety inspections of excavation sites, rigging operations, and heavy equipment activities to identify hazards and verify compliance with OSHA and client requirements.
- Monitor excavation practices to ensure proper protective systems, soil classification, and safe access/egress are in place.
- Oversee rigging and lifting operations, verifying load calculations, equipment condition, and proper use of slings, shackles, and other rigging hardware.
- Develop, implement, and maintain risk management strategies to minimize incidents involving excavation hazards, struck-by/caught-between exposures, and equipment operations.
- Provide field training sessions on excavation safety, heavy equipment awareness, and rigging best practices for employees.
- Assist in managing incident investigations, corrective actions, and workers’ compensation reporting.
- Collaborate with site leadership to integrate safety into project planning, including excavation support systems, lift plans, and traffic control.
- Maintain safety documentation, including JHAs, permits, training records, and inspection checklists, using construction management software.
- Stay updated on OSHA Subpart P (Excavations), Subpart CC (Cranes & Derricks), and other industry standards, recommending improvements where necessary.
Qualifications
- Proven safety experience in excavation, rigging, and heavy equipment operations within the construction or pipeline industry.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA standards, including Subpart P (Excavations) and rigging/lifting requirements, with the ability to recognize and mitigate hazards effectively.
- Familiarity with excavation support systems, soil analysis, rigging hardware, and heavy equipment operation hazards.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to coach and train crews on excavation and equipment safety.
- Proficiency in using construction management or safety tracking software for compliance reporting.
- Relevant certifications (OSHA 30, NCCER CSST, Rigging, COSS, CHST, or equivalent) preferred.
- A proactive and detail-oriented approach to hazard recognition and problem-solving.
Job Types: Contract, Temporary
Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
