Position Summary
The IHM Security Guard provides direct supervision of students, monitors school facilities and grounds, reinforces school policies, and assists with campus safety and security.
A primary responsibility of this position is supervising students as they travel between the main campus and the IMH building. The employee will monitor designated crossing areas, help students cross safely, promote appropriate behavior during transitions, and remain alert to traffic, weather, and other potential safety concerns.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise students traveling between the main campus and the IHM building, including monitoring designated crossing points and helping students cross safely.
- Maintain a visible presence during student transitions and monitor traffic, pedestrian activity, weather conditions, and other potential hazards.
- Reinforce expectations for safe, orderly, and respectful conduct while students travel between buildings.
- Respond promptly to unsafe conditions or student concerns and communicate significant issues to the Deans and campus security team.
- Supervise students throughout the IHM building.
- Assist the Deans and faculty in enforcing school rules and report conduct to the Dean\'s Office.
- Monitor student behavior and noise levels to maintain appropriate decorum throughout the school day.
- Maintain a professional, visible, and approachable presence at all times.
- Protect and assist students, employees, families, visitors, and members of the administration.
- Ensure that only authorized individuals with appropriate credentials are permitted to enter campus buildings.
- Secure access points, buildings, offices, and restricted areas as assigned.
- Enforce parking regulations and campus access procedures.
- Respond to illnesses, injuries, emergencies, disturbances, and irregular activity in coordination with the Dean\'s Office and other appropriate personnel.
- Contact or work with the Chicago Police Department and other emergency responders when directed or when circumstances require.
- Properly use, maintain, and safeguard security radios and other assigned equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Scope and Impact
This position directly affects student safety, behavior, and the overall school environment. The IHM Security Guard exercises sound judgment when supervising students, monitoring campus activity, addressing routine disciplinary concerns, and responding to potential safety issues. The position works collaboratively with the Deans, faculty, staff, campus security personnel, and outside emergency responders and does not have budgetary responsibility.
Qualifications - Required
- Minimum of a High School Diploma and/or equivalent training and/or experience. Associates degree or higher preferred.
- Knowledge of all relevant state statutes and local ordinances.
- Ability to articulate in a clear and distinct manner during emergency and non-emergency situations.
- Ability to make accurate decisions based on observations and perceptions.
- Must be able to work well with administration, staff and students.
- Must be self-directed and able to prioritize assignments.
- Basic knowledge of computers and software used on campus.
- Working knowledge of report writing.
Ability to learn site specific rules, regulations, and codes.
Qualifications - Preferred
- Experience working in an educational setting.
- Experience supervising pedestrian crossings or student transitions.
- Familiarity with emergency response procedures and school safety protocols.
- CPR, first aid, or other relevant safety training.

- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with students, employees, families, visitors, and emergency responders.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This position requires frequent walking, standing, and movement throughout the campus. The employee must be able to supervise students indoors and outdoors, including during inclement weather, and remain stationed at designated crossing areas for extended periods. The position may require climbing stairs, responding quickly to incidents, and occasionally lifting or moving up to 25 pounds.
Compensation and Schedule
Hourly rate: $17.05�$19.00 per hour
Full-time, 10-month, non-exempt position
The schedule is based on the school calendar and student supervision needs and may include occasional work before or after regular school hours.
This position is eligible for employee benefits during the 10-month active employment period. Employer-sponsored health coverage does not continue during the summer months; however, the employee may elect to continue health coverage through COBRA at the employee\'s expense, subject to the terms and eligibility requirements of the applicable benefit plan.
