Design Analysis Technician Responsibilities Include:
- Perform advanced diagnostics and repairs across electrical, mechanical, and integrated vehicle systems.
- Perform onsite inspections of vehicles, including all documentation, video, and photo records, using a client-provided protocol.
- Lead troubleshooting for undefined or ambiguous vehicle issues, determining the root cause.
- Complete full vehicle tear-downs and reassemblies when required for testing.
- Support and mentor junior technicians by providing guidance on diagnostics, repair techniques, and best practices.
- Maintain accurate documentation of diagnostics, repairs, and other activities.
- Adhere to Suburban Automotive Service’s DRIVEN values and align business practices to support the SAS mission and vision.
- ASE Certification required (A-Series certifications preferred; Master Technician strongly preferred).
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on automotive technician experience, preferably in dealership, fleet, or retrofit environments.
- Advanced diagnostic expertise in electrical systems, CAN networks, and vehicle module communication.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex and non-routine vehicle issues with minimal direction.
- Strong proficiency in vehicle programming, scanning tools, and OEM diagnostic platforms.
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical service bulletins (TSBs).
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record (Chauffer’s license a plus).
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in physically demanding environments.
- Strong computer skills for diagnostics, programming, and documentation.
- Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly explain technical issues and solutions.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and take ownership of complex repairs.
- Reliable team player with leadership and mentorship capabilities.
- Must provide and maintain a comprehensive set of professional-grade tools.
- Experience with advanced shop equipment, including hoists, transmission jacks, and specialty tools.
- Strong understanding of safe handling and disposal of automotive fluids and materials.
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to work closely with clients.
- Ability to travel (fly or drive) to sites for accident reconstruction, testing, and vehicle inspections.

- Ability to have DOT health certifications
- Ability to be flexible and a “whatever it takes” attitude
- Must be able to work overtime when required with little advanced notice
- 50% of the time, this job will be completed while standing.
- 25% of the time, this job will be completed while walking, lifting, climbing, pulling, pushing, and being in cramped or confined spaces
- 25% of the time, you will be traveling to locations both indoors and in inclement weather to do testing or inspections.
