The Role
As an Overhead Crane Operator / Steel Material Handler, you are the starting point for our production line. You will be responsible for keeping the shop supplied and ensuring steel flows smoothly and safely.
Key Responsibilities:
- Must be proficient in handling oversized steel (40’–60’) and heavy loads up to 10 tons.
- Safely unload/load large structural steel beams from flatbed semi-trucks using an overhead crane.
- Load beams onto rollers and navigate them through the bead blaster to clean the beams.
- Operate a metal saw to cut steel to precise lengths according to provided cut lists.
- Operate a forklift to move materials around the yard and stock smaller steel on racks.
- Monitor and record steel inventory accurately.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and SAFE operating environment at all times.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Equipment Experience: Prior experience operating overhead cranes is greatly preferred (though we will train the right candidate who has the mechanical aptitude and desire to learn).
- Safety First: Must be comfortable and confident moving heavy objects safely with a high attention to detail.
- Tape Measure Skills: The ability to accurately read a tape measure is required.
- Working Conditions: Must be able to work 60% indoors and 40% outdoors (work area is under a roof but exposed to outdoor temperatures).
- Mechanical Aptitude: Must understand basic machinery operation to ensure equipment is used correctly. The ability to perform light maintenance or repairs is not required but is highly helpful.
- Attitude: Requires a positive, mission-first attitude with personal ownership, reliability, and accountability.
- Attendance: Ability to show up on time to support your team and keep materials flowing
- Language: Must be able to read, speak, and understand English.
