Patient Billing Specialist

Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Medical Billing Specialist to manage all aspects of billing and revenue cycle operations for our out-of-network physical therapy practice. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate claims submission, patient invoicing, insurance reimbursement, and maintaining compliance with payer regulations. The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of out-of-network insurance processes, superb communication skills, and a proactive approach to maximizing collections.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and submit medical claims using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, ensuring compliance with coding standards such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group).
• Verify patient insurance benefits for in and out-of-network physical therapy services
• Educate patients on in and out-of-network coverage, deductibles, and reimbursement expectations
• Review medical records to verify the accuracy of diagnoses, procedures, and coding details to maximize reimbursement.
• Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection strategies, working closely with insurance companies and patients.
• Maintain detailed documentation of billing activities, patient accounts, and correspondence related to claims processing.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify billing information or resolve discrepancies promptly.
• Stay current with changes in medical coding regulations and insurance policies to ensure compliance and optimize revenue.
• Assist in reconciling accounts receivable and generating reports to monitor billing performance and identify areas for improvement.

Skills

• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and coding systems including CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, ICD coding, DRG classifications, and medical billing procedures.
• Experience with EMR systems and EHR platforms for accurate data entry and claim submission.
• Proficiency in medical collection techniques to recover outstanding payments efficiently.
• Familiarity with insurance claim processes, denials management, and appeals procedures.
• Excellent attention to detail with the ability to interpret complex medical documentation accurately.
• Effective communication skills for working with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients.
• Ability to stay organized in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple tasks simultaneously. Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
