The Opportunity
Our client, a well-established and highly respected law firm, is looking to add a Real Property Tax Associate to join their national real property tax practice. Qualified candidates, who have extensive experience with the energy and utilities sectors, can either hold their Juris Doctor (JD) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation. A remote work situation is possible for the right candidate. Approximately 25% travel is required for the role.
Requirements
The Real Property Tax Associate will help oversee and manage clients in the energy industry including publicly traded companies, private equity energy firms and international energy companies across North America. No book of business is required.
Qualified candidates will possess the following credentials/experience:
- Juris Doctor (JD), Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation
- 10 years of experience in property tax management and the valuation and assessment of energy/utility assets for local and state real property tax assessment purposes
- Experience in the energy/utility industry required
- Experience in the interpretation and utilization of expert appraisal reports
- Experience in the preparation of annual filings, payment of property tax bills, handling of audits, negotiation and compliance of PILOT agreements
- Experience in the preparation of tax projections
- Experience on a multi-jurisdictional/national basis in M&A due diligence and expert testimony
- Must have a strong working knowledge of regional energy markets and and/or experience in tax compliance management, including preparation of annual filings, payment of tax bills, audits, and PILOT agreement, budgeting and tax projections
At this time, the good faith estimate of the annual base salary range for a New York State based candidate is $125,000 to $200,000 and does not include performance- or merit-based bonuses including variable compensation or other benefits offered by the firm. Actual compensation will depend on a number of factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s years of experience, qualifications, individual financial performance/contributions, skill set, and office location.
