Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Biomedical Repair Technician to join our team, specializing in the repair and maintenance of EEG amplifiers and other neurodiagnostic equipment. In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring the functionality, reliability, and safety of our medical devices. You will be responsible for diagnosing and resolving technical issues, performing routine maintenance, and collaborating with clinical and technical teams to enhance device performance. Your work will directly support healthcare providers in delivering accurate and effective neurodiagnostic services. Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Performing routine maintenance and emergency repairs on EEG amplifiers.
  • Maintaining an inventory of repair parts and equipment.
  • Providing feedback to the engineering or R&D teams on recurring issues.
  • Documenting all repairs and maintenance activities.
  • Assist in the development of in-house repair protocols and training other staff if necessary.

 

Education/Experience:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in: Electronics Engineering Technology, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Computer Engineering
  • 3 to 5 years of technical repair experience
  • Expertise in medical device maintenance, particularly with neurodiagnostic equipment
Qualifications:

Qualifications:

Electronics Repair and Diagnostics

  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and datasheets for circuit components used in EEG amplifiers.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing faults, such as: broken traces, damaged capacitors, resistors, ICs, and power supply issues
  • Use of lab equipment, such as: Multimeter-measure voltages, resistance, and continuity.
  •  Oscilloscope: Check signal integrity and waveform accuracy.
  •  Signal Generator: Simulate input signals for testing amplifiers.
  • Familiarity with electromagnetic interference (EMI) troubleshooting to ensure proper amplifier   performance.

Medical Device Knowledge

  • Understanding of signal processing for biomedical applications (e.g., EEG waveforms).
  • Familiarity with amplifier specifications, such as: gain, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), common-mode rejection ratio (CMRR)
  • Awareness of ISO 13485 and other medical device safety standards.
  • Ability to calibrate amplifiers to ensure they meet medical-grade performance levels.

Component-Level Soldering and Repair

  • Expertise in soldering
  • Soldering and desoldering surface-mount devices (SMDs) and through-hole components.
  • Replacing delicate components like ICs, diodes, and capacitors without damaging PCBs.

Firmware and Software Troubleshooting

  • Ability to identify when issues are hardware-related vs. firmware/software-related.
  • Understanding of embedded systems and microcontroller programming to debug firmware faults.
  • Familiarity with EEG amplifier software tools for: device configuration, firmware updates, error logging and troubleshooting.

Calibration and Testing

  • Knowledge of calibration techniques to ensure accuracy in signal amplification, noise filtering, and signal linearity
  • Use of specialized testing equipment, such as: EEG simulator or phantom devices to test output signals, and the ability to perform preventative maintenance checks.

Regulatory and Compliance Knowledge

  • Familiarity with medical device regulations (e.g., FDA Class II for EEG equipment).
  • Documentation of all repairs and service activities to meet regulatory compliance.
  • Attention to detail: Precise repairs are critical for patient safety and device reliability.
  • Problem-solving mindset: Ability to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
  • Communication skills: Collaborate with engineers and clinicians to understand device usage and problems.
  • Time management: Prioritize repairs based on urgency and maintain accurate service logs.

 

 

Required Licenses/Certification:

  • Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET)
  • IPC Certification in soldering and assembly (e.g., IPC J-STD-001 or IPC-7711/7721)
  • Specific OEM training or certifications for EEG or similar equipment (if available)
