We are partnered with a well-funded ($400mil) startup who are pioneering the next generation of Autonomous Agents for Scientific Research and Discovery. Their mission is to accelerate breakthroughs across disciplines by combining large-scale AI foundation models with cutting-edge computational platforms, enabling autonomous systems to generate, test, and refine scientific hypotheses. They are building the core infrastructure that makes this possible; from distributed training systems to scalable agent frameworks. They are looking for a VP Engineering to lead the teams powering this.
As VP Engineering, you will be accountable for building and scaling a world-class engineering organization. You will work hand-in-hand with the Chief Architect, research leadership, and product teams to deliver the software, systems, and platforms that make scientific AI agents a reality.This role blends strategic leadership and hands-on execution: you will set direction, hire and mentor top-tier engineering talent, and ensure delivery of high-quality, scalable technology.
You will be responsible for building, scaling, and leading a high-performing engineering organization across software, infrastructure, and ML engineering. You will translate company vision and scientific goals into an execution strategy and delivery roadmap and you will drive engineering excellence: establish best practices, delivery processes, and a strong culture of technical ownership. They are looking for a proven technology leader who thrives at the intersection of AI, large-scale systems, and organizational leadership. Someone who balances strategic vision with operational discipline, and you know how to scale both technology and teams.
Essential qualifications:
- 10 years in engineering leadership roles, including senior management or VP-level experience.
- Experience managing teams of 150 in size
- Proven success in building and scaling engineering teams in fast-growing or deep-tech organizations.
- Strong understanding of ML infrastructure, distributed systems, and large-scale platform development.
- Track record of delivering complex, high-scale software systems with real-world impact.
- Deep experience in setting engineering culture, processes, and standards for excellence.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
