About the Company
Our client is building the future of accounting with AI. Their mission is to eliminate painful, manual, and error-prone processes in finance and accounting by delivering an intelligent, automated platform that enables finance teams to focus on strategy, not spreadsheets. Backed by top-tier investors, they have just closed their Series A and are entering a critical growth phase: scaling product from 0β1 and building an engineering organization from scratch.
The Role
Our client is seeking an entrepreneurial Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead and scale the technology function. This role is about building, not maintaining. The CTO will set the technical vision, architect the product, and build an engineering team of 70 world-class engineers over the next 24 months.
In the early days, the CTO will remain hands-on (~20% of the time) writing code, reviewing architecture, and building alongside the team. Over time, the role will evolve into a strategic leadership position, focused on scaling people, processes, and technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Vision & Strategy: Define and execute the long-term technology roadmap aligned with product and business goals.
- Product 0β1: Architect and ship the core AI-driven accounting platform from scratch.
- Team Building: Recruit, mentor, and scale a high-performing engineering team from 0 to 70 engineers.
- Culture & Process: Establish engineering best practices, development processes, and a culture of ownership, innovation, and excellence.
- Hands-On Leadership: Contribute code and perform technical deep dives (β20% initially) to ensure quality and momentum.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with Product, Data Science, and Go-to-Market teams to deliver category-defining solutions.
Candidate Profile
- Proven Experience: Has previously scaled a product from 0β1 and built an engineering team from scratch to at least 50 engineers, ideally in a fast-growing startup.
- Technical Depth: Strong background in modern software architecture, AI/ML integration, and cloud-native systems.
- Hands-On Ability: Willing and able to roll up sleeves in the early days (coding, architecture, reviews).
- Leadership & Scaling: Demonstrated track record of building and leading engineering organizations at scale.
- Domain Interest: Motivated to solve hard problems in accounting, finance, and AI automation.
- Bias for Action: Thrives in high-growth, ambiguous environments and loves building systems, teams, and products from zero.
Why Join
- Define the technology backbone of a category-creating company in Accounting AI.
- Scale both the product and the engineering organization from the ground up.
- Collaborate directly with a visionary founder/CEO and a world-class leadership team.
- Competitive compensation, equity, and benefits.
- Series A momentum with backing from top-tier investors.
