Strategic Results is seeking a Technical Editor II to support the Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) Office of Research, Development, and Technology (RD&T) by reviewing and editing technical publications, communications materials, and digital content for accuracy, consistency, readability, and quality. The Technical Editor II will work closely with technical writers, researchers, engineers, graphic designers, and Government staff to ensure written products effectively communicate transportation research and technical information to a variety of audiences.
The ideal candidate is a meticulous editor with excellent written communication skills who can review technical information for clarity and consistency while managing multiple assignments in a collaborative production environment.
Key Responsibilities
· Edit technical reports, research summaries, newsletters, brochures, articles, web content, presentations, and other communications products for grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity, and consistency.
· Review documents to ensure compliance with established editorial standards, style guides, and publication requirements.
· Verify consistency of terminology, references, tables, figures, captions, and supporting documentation.
· Coordinate revisions with technical writers, Government staff, and subject matter experts.
· Review draft and final publications for formatting, organization, and readability.
· Assist with proofreading page layouts and final production files before publication.
· Support quality assurance activities throughout the document development process.
· Maintain document version control and track editorial changes.
· Review communications products intended for print and digital distribution.
· Assist in maintaining editorial templates, formatting standards, and document consistency.
· Coordinate editorial activities with project schedules and production deadlines.
· Participate in project meetings and collaborate with multidisciplinary communications teams.
· Recommend editorial improvements that enhance readability and usability.
· Perform other editorial support activities as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
· Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Technical Communication, or a related field, and 3 years of experience.
· Demonstrated experience editing technical, scientific, engineering, or research-based documents.
· Excellent knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, spelling, and editorial principles.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
· Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet production deadlines.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and Adobe Acrobat.
Preferred:
· Experience supporting Federal Government communications or publication programs.
· Experience editing transportation, engineering, scientific, or research publications.
· Familiarity with document production workflows.
· Knowledge of Section 508 accessibility considerations for published documents.
· Experience collaborating with technical writers, graphic designers, and subject matter experts.
· Familiarity with plain language principles and Federal editorial guidance.
