Strategic Results is seeking a Copywriter to support the Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) Office of Research, Development, and Technology (RD&T) by developing compelling written content that communicates transportation research, technology, and program initiatives to a variety of audiences. The Copywriter will work collaboratively with Government staff and the communications team to produce clear, engaging, and audience-focused messaging for print and digital communications products that support FHWA's outreach and technology transfer objectives.
The ideal candidate is an exceptional storyteller with strong writing, editing, and research skills who can translate technical information into concise, engaging content that informs, educates, and inspires diverse audiences.
Key Responsibilities
· Develop original copy for brochures, newsletters, fact sheets, flyers, articles, presentations, web content, email communications, and other outreach materials.
· Write clear, concise, and engaging content tailored to technical and non-technical audiences.
· Collaborate with Government staff, researchers, engineers, and technical subject matter experts to develop accurate messaging.
· Translate complex transportation research and technical information into accessible communications products.
· Draft promotional content supporting publications, events, outreach initiatives, and technology transfer activities.
· Revise copy based on Government review and editorial feedback.
· Coordinate with technical writers, editors, graphic designers, web content specialists, and multimedia specialists to develop integrated communications products.
· Ensure messaging is consistent across communications platforms and products.
· Conduct background research to support development of communications materials.
· Assist with development of executive correspondence, talking points, presentations, and briefing materials, as assigned.
· Maintain document files and supporting reference materials throughout the writing process.
· Support multiple communications projects while meeting established deadlines.
· Participate in project planning meetings and coordinate writing assignments with project teams.
· Recommend messaging approaches that improve audience engagement and communication effectiveness.
Qualifications
Required:
· Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field, and 3 years of experience.
· Demonstrated experience developing written communications for multiple audiences.
· Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to organize complex information into clear, concise, audience-appropriate messaging.
· Strong research and interviewing skills.
· Ability to manage multiple writing assignments and meet project deadlines.
· Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred:
· Experience supporting Federal Government communications or outreach programs.
· Experience writing communications related to transportation, engineering, scientific, or research organizations.
· Experience developing content for print and digital communications.
· Familiarity with website content, newsletters, marketing materials, or public information campaigns.
· Knowledge of plain language principles and Section 508 accessibility considerations.
