Project Accountant
Overview: The Project Accountant is responsible for managing the financial aspects of assigned projects to ensure profitability and compliance with internal and external requirements. This role plays a critical part in tracking project costs, revenues, and subcontractor invoices from receipt through verification to payment. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, analytical, and capable of working collaboratively with project managers, subcontractors, and the finance team.
- Monitor and track the financial performance of assigned projects, including budgets, actuals, forecasts, and profitability.
- Prepare and analyze project cost reports and financial statements to support project managers and senior leadership.
- Track subcontractor invoices from receipt through verification, approval, and payment, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Collaborate with project managers to ensure accurate project setup, billing, and revenue recognition in accordance with company policies and contract terms.
- Reconcile project-related transactions and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Assist in month-end and year-end close processes related to project accounting.
- Maintain organized and auditable project financial records.
- Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to the development of best practices in project accounting.
- Provide additional support to the Accounting and Finance operations as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3 years of experience in project accounting, preferably in a government contracting or professional services environment.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and project cost tracking.
- Experience with subcontractor invoice processing and payment workflows.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Deltek Costpoint software.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with government contracts and compliance (e.g., FAR, DFARS).
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001:2015 or similar quality management systems.
