Position Responsibilities
- Provide onsite gastroenterology physician services for VA patients in accordance with VA clinical standards and facility requirements
- Deliver outpatient and inpatient gastroenterology consultative care as clinically indicated
- Perform gastroenterology procedures including:
- Colonoscopy
- Colonoscopy via colostomy
- Colonoscopy with biopsy
- Colonoscopy with ablation of tumor, polyp, or lesion
- Colonoscopy with removal of tumor, polyp, or lesion by hot forceps or snare technique
- Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD)
- EGD with biopsy
- EGD with removal of tumor, polyp, or lesion by hot forceps or snare technique
- Complete consults and procedures within required VA timelines
- Document care appropriately in the VA electronic health record
- Follow all VA medication, patient safety, privacy, infection control, and documentation requirements
- Participate in required quality assurance, chart review, gastroenterology team meetings, and medical service staff meetings
- Provide discharge education and follow-up instructions coordinated with the next care setting
- Support after-hours call coverage for phone consultation and in-person evaluation when medically necessary
- MD or DO
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology through the American Board of Internal Medicine
- Current BLS and ACLScertification, or equivalent
- Current DEA registration
- National Provider Identifier (NPI) or ability to provide NPI documentation
- Technical proficiency to perform the required gastroenterology services
- Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently
- Ability to obtain and maintain VA credentialing and privileging approval before start of services
- Physicians must have a full and unrestricted license; candidates with a current or prior license that was restricted, suspended, revoked, voluntarily surrendered pending action, or denied will not qualify for this role
- Candidate must satisfy VA credentialing, privileging, training, and suitability requirements
- Candidate must complete required VA onboarding and mandatory annual training
- Candidate must meet occupational health and immunization requirements, including TB and other standard healthcare screening items required by the VA
- This is a non-personal services contract role supporting a federal healthcare environment
