Staff Engineer / Lead – Build Systems (Bazel)
An autonomous vehicle manufacturer in the Bay Area is looking for a Staff or Lead Software Engineer to join their Developer Experience team. The company operates a large polyglot monorepo and is focused on improving the build and test infrastructure that supports their engineering org.
This role is a mix of hands-on technical work and light people management — you'll own their Bazel build system and manage one Bazel engineer.
Compensation & Location:
- Up to $360,000 base salary equity
- Hybrid out of Alameda, CA
Core Responsibilities:
- Own and evolve a Bazel-based build system within a polyglot monorepo
- Improve and maintain CI pipelines (CircleCI experience a plus)
- Set standards for build and test infrastructure across the engineering team
- Collaborate with developers to improve build performance and reliability
- Manage and mentor one Bazel engineer
