Job Title: Vivarium Technician (Part-Time Contractor)

Position Summary
We are seeking a responsible and detail-oriented Vivarium Technician (Part-Time Contractor) to support routine animal husbandry and vivarium operations in a rodent facility. This role involves daily care of laboratory animals, environmental monitoring, and cage maintenance, all in compliance with institutional and regulatory animal welfare standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily husbandry tasks including feeding, watering, and routine cage changing for rodents
- Monitor animals for signs of illness, injury, or distress and report observations to supervisory staff
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of animal rooms and facility workspaces
- Record environmental conditions (e.g., temperature, humidity) and health observations accurately
- Ensure proper cage labeling and assist with animal identification tracking
- Communicate effectively with vivarium staff to support seamless operations
- Adhere to all SOPs, institutional guidelines, and IACUC protocols
- Provide weekend and/or holiday support on a rotating schedule, as needed
Qualifications
- Associate degree or equivalent required; coursework in animal science, biology, or related fields preferred
- Experience with laboratory rodents and routine cage changing preferred
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow SOPs and maintain accurate records
- Reliable, punctual, and capable of working independently
- ALAT certification (AALAS) preferred or willingness to obtain if extended
- Physically able to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for extended periods
