Job Title: Vivarium Technician (Part-Time Contractor)

Location: Cambridge, MA (Onsite)

Position Summary

We are seeking a responsible and detail-oriented Vivarium Technician (Part-Time Contractor) to support routine animal husbandry and vivarium operations in a rodent facility. This role involves daily care of laboratory animals, environmental monitoring, and cage maintenance, all in compliance with institutional and regulatory animal welfare standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform daily husbandry tasks including feeding, watering, and routine cage changing for rodents
• Monitor animals for signs of illness, injury, or distress and report observations to supervisory staff
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of animal rooms and facility workspaces
• Record environmental conditions (e.g., temperature, humidity) and health observations accurately
• Ensure proper cage labeling and assist with animal identification tracking
• Communicate effectively with vivarium staff to support seamless operations
• Adhere to all SOPs, institutional guidelines, and IACUC protocols
• Provide weekend and/or holiday support on a rotating schedule, as needed

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent required; coursework in animal science, biology, or related fields preferred
• Experience with laboratory rodents and routine cage changing preferred
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow SOPs and maintain accurate records
• Reliable, punctual, and capable of working independently
• ALAT certification (AALAS) preferred or willingness to obtain if extended
• Physically able to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for extended periods
