Brief Description Of Duties

The Director of Student Health Services (SHS) is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the student health clinic, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care. Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President for Health, Wellness, and Prevention Services, the Director operates under the administrative direction of both the AVP and the Vice President for Student Affairs. The incumbent will lead quality improvement initiatives, ensure compliance with accreditation standards, drive patient satisfaction efforts, and implement service recovery strategies. A key focus of this role is optimizing operational efficiencies and improving access to care, including promoting and expanding telehealth services.

As part of the Student Affairs leadership team, the Director develops and recommends policies, procedures, and programs that support student well-being, academic success, and overall wellness. They collaborate closely with the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), other SHWPS directors, and campus partners such as University Police to develop and implement integrated medical and behavioral health initiatives that incorporate principles of cultural humility.

In addition to administrative responsibilities, the Director serves as a clinical provider, managing acute illnesses through comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. This includes ordering laboratory tests, X-rays, and prescribing medications. The Director also provides patient health education, conducts health screenings, and leads preventive healthcare initiatives while coordinating referrals to specialty or emergency care as needed. Maintaining accurate and timely health records is an essential function of this role.

The Director leads efforts to enhance the quality of care and oversees the accreditation process and survey for the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), ensuring that SHS meets and exceeds accreditation requirements. A systematic review of incident reports is conducted to identify opportunities for quality improvement and risk mitigation.

They also partner with the local hospital system to improve student transport logistics for urgent and emergent medical needs, ensuring seamless care transitions. Additionally, the Director serves as the Narcan Health Advisor for University Police and the Department of Health, providing guidance on overdose prevention and response protocols. Their collaboration with the Department of Health extends to broader public health concerns, including communicable disease management, outbreak response, and public health education initiatives designed to protect the campus community.

The Director works closely with the Center for Prevention and Outreach (CPO) to advance health education, address health disparities, and eliminate barriers to care. They foster a culture of innovation, professional development, and continuous improvement within SHS, with a strong emphasis on enhancing operations and improving the student experience.
