Bachelor’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). In lieu of degree, four (4) years of full time experience working in an animal related field. Experience working in an animal research facility. Experience caring for the major laboratory animal species. Supervisory experience. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver’s License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. Preferred Qualifications
AALAS certification in lab animal facility management (CMAR or ILAM).
Brief Description Of Duties
The Division of Laboratory Animal Resources (DLAR) Assistant Animal Care Manger will supervise the animal care section and manage the day-to-day care to ensure compliance with the Animal Welfare Act, Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW) Policy and Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) standards at all sites. The ideal candidate must have excellent communication skills and an understanding of the basic workings of a laboratory animal facility.
Duties
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Non-Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $4000 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
Evening And Weekend Work May Be Required At Times.

Duties
- Direct supervision of the animal care section in the Division of Laboratory Animal Resources.
- Assist with overseeing and ensuring staff compliance with all DLAR Standards Operating Procedures and Policies.
- Assist with overseeing and ensuring proper on-the-job training for all animal care workers.
- Work with investigators, post-doctoral fellows, and students to resolve outstanding issues relating to the care of laboratory animals.
- Perform product ordering of animal-related supplies required for daily animal care.
- Assist in the preparation of the Program descriptions required by AAALAC prior to site visits, and in documentation for site inspections from United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and NY State Public Health.
- Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
